If Y chromosome-friendly gifts leave you at a loss, or you just have a personal affinity for the menswear movement, then Style Girlfriend is definitely for you.

My past gig in the world of tailored clothing gives me a special appreciation for the intricacies of dude duds -- so while Megan Collins has created a site with the tagline of "men's style from a female perspective", I'm totally hooked. Lucky, Esquire and GQ are all converts, and it's easy to see why - the site has built a refreshing bridge between the sexes in the style department, that sets it apart from the rest.

Q1: Best gift you received? Who gave it to you?

I don’t know if it’s the best gift ever, but for my birthday one year, a boyfriend gave me barre wraps that I’d been obsessing over but wouldn’t buy for myself. They were like $50! And while I love taking barre classes (I go once or twice a week), I couldn’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on what are basically fancy socks with a little bit of grip on the bottom.

I’m so bad at spending money on myself, so it was just a really thoughtful “I know you” type of present - nothing so outrageous in terms of being pricey or over the top…the gesture is really what meant a lot to me.

Q2: Best gift you gave? Who did you give it to?

I once made a flip book for a (different) boyfriend that listed as many reasons I loved him for every year he’d been alive. I remember I was in my first job out of college and hated it (I switched paths shortly thereafter), and probably spent way more time than I should have working on it - and definitely used up more than my fair share of the office printer’s ink toner. It was great, though..every page had a big collage on it with pictures of us and little inside jokes.

He loved it - or he said he did, anyway - but I honestly think I was more excited to give it to him than he was to receive it. I kept making him flip to different pages. “See that? Get it? Check this one out!”

Q3. Best party you attended? Details you won't forget?

My sister and brother-in-law’s wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico. It was at an all-inclusive resort, which I had never been to, and I’d just graduated from college, so I was still in a scavenger's mindset. You know, calculating the price of drinks and all that “If I get this cocktail, it’s this much, but if I get a beer, it’s this much…” So to be able to forget about all that and just enjoy myself and eat and imbibe as much as I wanted was awesome. Really, the whole weekend was just a blast, but the wedding especially was beautiful and then we just had such a fun time at the reception. Everyone danced, I think my sister just had a playlist queued up on her phone, and we danced to ridiculous songs that make everyone want to dance like “Shoop” by Salt n’ Pepa and “Regulator.”

Q4: Most meaningful project thus far?

Most meaningful and biggest has to go to the holiday gift guide series we did last year on Style Girlfriend. It was the most ambitious project we’ve ever undertaken, calling in more than 150 products and shooting 7 different guides, all organized by color. So one week was gifts in yellows and oranges, the next week was blues and turquoise, then silver and gold, black and white…it was super time consuming (and uhhh, pretty stressful) but so worth it. The readers loved it, and it’s been something I’ve been able to go to new potential clients with to say, “This is what we’re capable of.”
